1、GPD Is Preparing a New Modular eGPU Platform
GPD has officially revealed the upcoming GPD G2 eGPU, a new external graphics dock designed for gaming handhelds, mini PCs, laptops, and workstation environments. While the company has not yet announced a final release date or pricing, several core specifications are already available through GPD’s official product information.
Unlike many traditional eGPU docks, the GPD G2 is being positioned as a broader expansion platform rather than only an external GPU enclosure. GPD is combining MCIO 8i, USB4 v2.0, PCIe support, storage expansion, and power delivery into a compact desktop-oriented solution.
2、MCIO and USB4 v2.0 Are the Biggest Highlights
One of the most important features of the upcoming GPD G2 eGPU is its MCIO 8i interface. According to GPD, the connection supports PCIe Gen 4 x8 with theoretical bidirectional bandwidth up to 256Gbps and effective bandwidth around 31.5 GB/s.
The GPD G2 also supports USB4 v2.0, including symmetric 80Gbps transmission and asymmetric 120Gbps/40Gbps modes. This allows the device to support both high-performance setups and wider device compatibility.
Other officially listed specifications include:

- M.2 2280 SSD expansion
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports
- RJ45 LAN port
- 100W PD charging
- ATX 3.1 Gold power supply

Because the product has not yet launched, independent benchmarks and real-world testing are still unavailable.
3、More Than a Standard eGPU Dock
According to GPD’s official description, the G2 is designed not only for gaming handhelds, but also for consumer PCs, workstations, servers, and HPC scenarios. This suggests GPD is targeting users who want scalable desktop-class performance from compact systems.
The upcoming GPD BOX mini PC also makes the GPD G2 more interesting. While the GPD G2 and GPD BOX are not dependent on each other and can both operate independently, GPD is clearly building a modular ecosystem where compact devices can expand into much more powerful desktop-style setups when combined.
